WELCOME TO A NEW SCHOOL YEAR!

School begins on Wednesday, September 7 for new students to the primary class.  This will only be a half-day.

September 8 will be the first day for all students to the primary class and it will be a half-day. Friday is also a half-day.

The toddler class begins on Monday, September 12 for five-day children and Tuesday, September 13 for three-day children.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT NO CHILD MAY BEGIN SCHOOL WITHOUT A CURRENT HEALTH CERTIFICATE ON FILE.

We would like to introduce our staff for the school year 2011/2012

TODDLER CLASS:  (FIFTEEN CHILDREN)

Ericka is toddler AMI Montessori trained from the North American Montessori Center of British Columbia, Canada.  She is the mother of Karris and Chet. Ericka has a BS in Social Work and a minor in Dance.  She has served as a facilitator of behavioral and social skills for 9-12 graders. This will be Ericka’s fourth year directing the toddler class and fifth year at Georgetown Montessori.

MAYA AMMONS will be assisting Ericka in the toddler class. This is Maya’s third year at GMS. Maya holds a primary AMI certificate from the North American Montessori center of British Columbia and also is a certified children’s yoga teacher with YoKid.  She will be teaching a yoga class for children, as well as directing the lunch program and the afternoon napping. Maya also has a BA in Rhetoric and Communications and Sociology.

Mette Foster will be assisting in the toddler class on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for her third year at GMS. Mette has been substituting at GMS for six years.   Mette is native of Denmark and is fluent in English, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish and German. She is the mother of two children and has a Business Degree from the University of Copenhagen.

PRIMARY CLASS: (thirty four children)

Lee Allard, Administrator, holds an AMI primary and elementary teaching certificate from the Washington Montessori Institute. She also has a BA in International affairs. Lee will be directing the primary class.

 She has 37 years of teaching experience and has lived in Vermont, Washington DC, Paris, France and the Virgin Islands. She has been the proprietor of GMS since its inception in 1983.

LOLITA ELLIS WILL ALSO BE CO-DIRECTING IN THE PRIMARY CLASS FOR HER Fifth YEAR AND TEACHING THE EXTENDED DAY CHILDREN IN THE AFTERNOON. LOLITA IS A NATIVE OF THE PHILIPPINES. SHE HAS A BS IN ECONOMICS AND AN AMI PRIMARY DIPLOMA FROM THE WASHINGTON MONTESSORI INSTITUTE. SHE HAS 30+ YEARS TEACHING EXPERIENCE AND HAS TAUGHT IN WASHINGTON DC, PENNSYLVANIA AND CALIFORNIA AND VIRGINIA. SHE IS THE MOTHER OF TWO CHILDREN WHO ARE PRODUCTS OF A MONTESSORI EDUCATION.

MEG CLERC WILL BE CO-TEACHING IN THE PRIMARY CLASS FOR HER SECOND YEAR AND MANAGING THE PRACTICAL LIFE AND SNACK AREAS OF THE CLASSROOM.  MEG HAS TAUGHT INTERMITTENTLY AT GMS SINCE 1999. SHE  HOLDS INFANT TODDLER CERTIFICATION FROM THE MONTGOMERY MONTESSORI INSTITUTE AND HAS A BA IN COMMUNICATIONS. MEG PREVIOUSLY DIRECTED THE TODDLER CLASS.  MEG IS FLUENT IN BOTH FRENCH AND SPANISH AND HAS LIVED IN FRANCE, ITALY AND MEXICO.

SHE HAS TWO CHILDREN WHO ARE GRADUATES OF GEORGETOWN MONTESSORI.

STEPHANIE WIMSATT RETURNS TO GEORGETOWN MONTESSORI AFTER A TWO YEAR SABBATICAL AND IS THE PROUD MOTHER OF A TWO YEAR OLD IN THE TODDLER CLASS. STEPHANIE ASSISTED IN BOTH THE TODDLER AND PRIMARY CLASSROOMS FOR FIVE YEARS AT GEORGETOWN MONTESSORI.  SHE IS CURRENTLY COMPLETING HER DEGREE IN PSYCHOLOGY AT MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY. SHE WILL BE ASSISTING IN THE CLASSROOM.

HOUDA OFFUOE RETURNS TO GEORGETOWN MONTESSORI AFTER A SIX YEAR BREAK IN THE IVORY COAST.  SHE NOW IS THE MOTHER OF A TWO YEAR OLD WHO WILL BE IN THE TODDLER CLASS.  HOUDA IS PRIMARY TRAINED WITH A DIPLOMA FROM NORTH AMERCAN MONTESSORI CENTER OF BRITISH COLUMBIA. SHE HAS TAUGHT IN BOTH TODDLER AND PRIMARY CLASSES SINCE 1999 AND IS A NATIVE FRENCH SPEAKER. She will also be assisting in the primary class.

VANESSA BUHLING , A NATIVE OF COBURG GERMANY, WILL BE VOLUNTEERING IN BOTH CLASSES DURING THE BEGINNING OF SEPTEMBER AND ONE WEEK IN OCTOBER.  SHE IS DOING AN INTERNSHIP IN MONTESSORI EDUCATION.
